Prayer for the Preborn

July 1, 2008

Every First Saturday of the month, Intercessors gather in front of Hempstead Planned Parenthood to pray for the preborn children who are being abandoned to death by abortion, for the mothers and fathers who are deceived into thinking this is a good choice, and for the doctors and other workers who participate in the killing of the these infant lives.  It is the hard truth, but we act in love and pray for all those involved and for the healing of those who have had abortions, but most most importantly for the preborn children.

Sunday School Teacher Appreciation

June 24, 2008

 Jesus said,  in Luke 18:16…

“Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God  belongs to such as these. ”

We at Church of the Intercessor express our appreciation for the hearts and hard work of the Sunday School teachers who teach the love and truth of Christ to our children every Sunday morning throughout the year.  It is a labor of love for the children.  It is the heart of our God.
We thank all the teachers and toddler and child care workers, and give special thanks to Jamie LeGrand for all her efforts as Sunday School Director this year.

“From the lips of infants and children You have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”

Bishop Craig in Florida

May 21, 2008

Our Bishop is in Florida this week, both vacationing and visiting Bishop David Simpson and the Cathedral Church of the Ressurrection where he preached on Trinity Sunday.  Bishop Craig preached on the mystery of the Trinity, explaining that undertanding the Trinity does not come about through information, but through revelation. Archbishop Bates said, “We as believers are drawn into the life of the Trinity, which is a life being transformed into the image and likeness of Jesus. As we live in relationship with the Godhead, we are transformed so that we can live a life of love and unity in the Church. This calls us to the join in the mission of Jesus to bring the world into restoration and reconciliation with the Father through the Spirit.”

Young Adults Confirmed in Faith

May 13, 2008

This spring, Bishop Bates confirmed these fourteen young adults who went through a series of classes beginning in October 2007 and ending just prior to making their Confirmation. Not only must the confirmands attend classes and take tests, each student also must have a desire to be confirmed and make a personal commitment to Christ. Bishop Craig sees this commitment as a vital part of the Confirmation process.  Deacon Ralph Legrand and Joe Devito served to prepare these young and women for this day.

Holy Saturday - Prayer for the Preborn

March 30, 2008

 holy saturday

Bishop Craig and other Intercessors gathered outside Planned Parenthood
in Hempstead, to commend in prayer the preborn children put to death in
that facility, as well as intercede for all those deceived into thinking they
are doing good when they participate in the killing of the pre-born children.

As our Lord Christ went down into hell on Holy Saturday to rescue those in
prison,  so does the Church particpate in Jesus’ mission to rescue all those
living in  darkness.  Only in confronting the lies and the darkness with the
truth and the light of Christ can the Church expect to see Jesus’ victory over
death and evil manifested.  “Thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.”

Lent Begins

February 5, 2008

Ash Wednesday reminds us of our mortality and the inevitability of our death. When we receive the ashes on our foreheads the priest or deacon will say, “remember you are dust and to dust you shall return.” The liturgy of Ash Wednesday is not however unconnected from the events of the Passion and Resurrection. The Psalmist reminds us that our Father also remembers even in our rebellion that we “are but flesh, a breath that passes away and does not come again.” Psalm 78.39

It is a good thing that the Church calls us to pause and reflect, not only on our mortality but also the struggle we all face with sin, the world, and the devil. Even in our baptism we are signed with the Sign of the Cross. This sign, done with the oil of chrism, seals us as Christ’s own forever while at the same time reminding us that we participate in the life of Christ crucified and are called into the great spiritual warfare in the heavens.

The Church calls us on Ash Wednesday to a holy season of prayer and fasting. This prayer and fasting is an ancient tradition of the church. This season will, in light of the love of Christ Jesus, enable us to make a serious self-examination and confess, with the intent of amendment of life, our sins. It is a time to seek the sacrament of reconciliation (confession) for self-examination must always be done with the knowledge of the assurance of forgiveness. This is not a time of accusation and condemnation but a time when we can lament our sins knowing we are loved and forgiven. For as John reminds us, “If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is no in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all un-righteousness. (I John 1.8-9) James tells us, “Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” (James 5.16)

It has been said, “we are merely beggars telling other beggars where to find food.” In Lent as we are reminded of our sin and the forgiveness of Christ we are also allowing the Holy Spirit to transform and conform our hearts to the loving heart of Christ. Lent motivates us to fulfill the great commission. It reminds us, as we participate in the reconciling work of Christ Jesus, that the primarily mission of the Church is the ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5.19) The message of the Church is that God loves us and has demonstrated this love on the Cross. (Romans 5. 8)

Our prayer during Lent should be for an increased awareness of the love of Christ, which will inflame and renew in us a desire for evangelization.

So we should heed the call of our fathers in God when they call us to a most holy Lent. It is good news to our ears. It is a call to remind us of the shortness of life, the reality and horror of our sins, and the incredible and awesome love of God made manifest in the Cross and Resurrection and proclaimed at every Holy Eucharist.

Under His Mercy,

Bishop Craig W. Bates

International Convocation

January 28, 2008

Bishop Craig will be installed as the Patriarch of the ICCEC at our International Convocation, July 30th - August 1st. Make your plans to stay at the Windham Orlando Resort at the reduced CEC rate, near Disney, and plan to celebrate what God is doing as well as enjoy a great vacation!

As chairman of the Host Commission, and on behalf of all our Bishops, it is my great joy to invite all the members of our communion to gather in holy convocation, July 30-August 1, 2008 in Orlando, Florida.  The convocation will commence on Wednesday evening with a glorious celebration of the Holy Eucharist, during which our new Patriarch, The Most Reverend Craig Bates, will be formally enthroned.

Thursday and Friday mornings will feature Dr. Simon Chan as our guest speaker.  His topic is the theme of the convocation, “The Vision:  Convergence Worship and Theology.”   With the election of a new Patriarch, it is timely for us to recast the vision entrusted to us by God when He raised up the International Communion of the Charismatic Episcopal Church.  Each afternoon there will be a variety of workshops offered, and each day will conclude with a service of worship during which the new Patriarch will speak.

All convocation activities will take place at the Wyndham Orlando Resort Hotel on International Drive.  It is strongly requested and recommended that all attendees register at the hotel for the duration of the convocation.  At such a time as this it is our hope that we will not only strengthen our vision, but also our relationships.  The Wyndham is beautifully designed to facilitate informal fellowship both indoors and outdoors.   For your convenience, room accommodations are available to registrants at the convocation rate three days before and after the convocation.

This is an historic event in the life of the ICCEC.   May it be an historic event in your life as well.  Join us in Orlando and celebrate what God is doing in our midst to advance His Kingdom upon the earth.

Youth for Life

January 16, 2008

Last summer I had the awesome privilege to step foot in an abortion-free country, Ireland. I traveled with Fr. Terry of CEC for Life and a group of tenacious young adults to work with Youth Defense, a pro-life group that is said to be responsible for keeping Ireland abortion-free after joining the European Union. It was so exciting to see so many young adults filled with righteous indignation concerning the killing of innocent children. You can read some of the quotes from the CEC young adults that traveled with us on CEC for Life’s website.

 Ireland-b

I am looking forward to spending time with the young adults of the CEC at the March for Life in DC this year. I believe with all my heart that this generation is going to end the legalized killing of innocent children. They will stop this great holocaust!

CEC for Life is hosting to two rallies at the Holiday Inn on C Street (you can find all the details on CEC for Life’s website). I would encourage you to bring your young adults to these events, or just come and see for yourself how God is raising up the next generation to end baby killing. It is my prayer that every diocese is represented at these events. Let’s encourage this next generation to continue the fight and taste the victory!
